Genetics

It’s safe to say I have the gene. My ancestry is not well documented but I do know that my grandfather owned a fancy tailoring shop in Waseca, MN specializing in custom mens suit altering. My father Don founded his electrical contracting company, Minnesota Electric in the mid sixties at an early age of 35 (early standards by that era). He needed a home for his new business, so he and his two partners restored The Old Milk Factory, a historic landmark located in Anoka, MN.
The Milk Factory was a perfect spot for my mother Sue to start up a new residential lighting studio, appropriately named "The Light Factory". I was her first employee at age 12.
Passion

After graduating high school, I was handed the keys to run the family business. Rather than following the traditional college education path, mom supported my growth by providing tuition allowances to polish my skills. I attended business courses like Dale Carnegie and Zig Zigler, while spending countless hours listening to her cassette libraries and reading books on entrepreneurs and their secrets to success.
I soon realized that residential lighting was not my passion. I always loved music and technology, spending all my discretionary income on my home and car stereos, proudly earning the moniker, “music man” in high school. It was clear that consumer electronics was to be my next chapter.
I took a sales job at Best Buy, which had just incorporated from a family-owned, local chainstore named Sound Of Music.
